How to play Crossword
Read the aim of Crossword, then make your first move. Fill every open square so the intersecting Across and Down answers match their clues. Use the example below to understand a decision. Choose a comfortable screen position before beginning. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move.

Fill every open square so the intersecting Across and Down answers match their clues. An attractive position is not enough unless the goal is met. Follow this game’s rules rather than another version’s.
Step by step
- Choose a numbered Across or Down clue to highlight its answer.
- Select a square and type a letter, or use the on-screen alphabet.
- Shared letters belong to both crossing answers. Selecting a shared square twice changes direction.
- Use Check entries to review entered letters. Reveal selected supplies one letter and counts as help.
- Complete every open square to solve the puzzle. Dark squares are not filled.
Controls
Select a clue or square. Use your physical keyboard or the on-screen letters, Erase, Check entries and Reveal selected. Scroll within the board on a narrow screen. Read a button’s label before selecting it. A new-round button replaces the current round.
A useful example
For the clue “A book of blank or lined pages for writing”, the answer is NOTEBOOK. It occupies 8 squares, and each crossing uses the same letter. Apply the same reasoning to the position in your own round. Keep the controls nearby.
Watch out for this
Do not fill dark squares. A letter that fits one answer must also fit the crossing clue. Compare the situation with the worked example. Read one step at a time and try it on the playing area. Match the instruction to the control you use.
