How to play Memory Pairs

Try Memory Pairs at your own pace and keep its objective in view. Match all eight pairs. Your result is the number of two-card turns used. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls. Keep the instructions close while learning this activity. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move.

Make the controls familiar

Locate the buttons and input area before beginning a long round. Use the on-screen labels to avoid an accidental restart. Make the next step deliberately.

Your goal

Match all eight pairs. Your result is the number of two-card turns used. Use the instructions to see which actions move you towards it. The example below illustrates a decision.

Step by step

  1. Turn over any face-down card.
  2. Choose a second card. Equal symbols stay visible.
  3. Unequal cards turn back after a short pause.
  4. Continue until every pair is visible.

Controls

Use the on-screen controls with a mouse or touch. Read a button’s label before selecting it. Return to the rules if the result is unexpected.

A useful example

Seeing a star at the top left and another star in the bottom row gives you a matching pair on a later turn. Compare this with the rule that governs the move. Keep the controls nearby.

Watch out for this

You cannot turn a third card while a mismatched pair is still being shown. Take a moment to reassess the position before continuing. When a decision goes wrong, compare it with the common mistake described below. Start again only when you intend to leave the current round.
